Job Description

Reporting to the Threading Manager as part of a four-member team, the Threading / Material Labourer Relief Floater is an entry level position requiring minimal training.   The Threading / Material Labourer Relief Floater may be assigned to work a various schedule and will be expected to fill in for other entry positions when required.

The Threading / Material Labourer Relief Floater is also required to communicate with Shift Operations Supervisors, Threading and Material Team Leader, Threading Labourers and Material Handlers. Threading / Material Labourer Relief Floater is a key member of the facility’s Quality Assurance and Production Team and will undertake activities associated with the continuous improvement and ensure continuous flow of product through department.

Essential Duties:

  • Operate all equipment required to perform necessary job functions.
  • Daily shift start up inspections on equipment and follow up on preventive maintenance reports;
  • Participate and communicate with all personnel throughout the facility.
  • Work with production schedules and understand the product flow through operations to maintain production flow.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements.
  • Inspect equipment to detect defects;
  • Assist in the cleaning of machinery.
  • Maintain housekeeping and equipment. 
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Adhere to and comply with all applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Grind threads with die grinder (as required per thread design).
  • Paint threads with dope.
  • Hand thread couplings (ranging in weight from 9 – 56LBS.) onto threaded ends of pipe.
  • Power tighten couplings onto joints utilizing automated system;
  • Hand thread pin/box end caps onto each joint (less than 1LB).
  • Enter individual information into computer and generate ID tag for each finished piece.
  • Maintain handwritten production reports.
  • Operate radio frequency equipment and control all inventory transactions.
  • Participate and communicate with all personnel throughout the facility.
  • Work with production schedules and understand the product flow through operations to maintain production flow in order to maintain or exceed established production expectations.
  • Monitor inventories so that quantities are met.  Report discrepancies to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Package loads for shipping and storage (lumber, stacks, racks and strapping will be required)
  • Verify integrity and preservation of product.
  • Perform cycle counts with radio frequency equipment as required.
  • Tally pipe as required to ensure the accuracy of shipping and receiving documents and report any damages of pipe, couplings or thread protectors.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Conferring with supervisors and operators in order to report equipment malfunctions and resolve production problems.
  • Completion of pre use inspection of equipment to detect defects and wear.
  • Compliance to Environmental Health and safety standards and engagement with EHS program and duties as assigned.
  • Provide coaching and expertise to other members by sharing expertise and working as a team to meet common business objectives.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to drive efficiency and cost savings.
  • Participate in meetings and committees to communicate information and serve as a liaison with other departments and managers.
  • Using a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment to perform duties.
  • Other duties as assigned for which he/she has received required training, possesses qualifications and/or is considered competent.

Educational and Experience Requirements for this position:

  • Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • Proven written/verbal communication ability.
  • Basic technical aptitude including but not limited to: computers, math, assembly and general manufacturing principles.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours/shifts.
  • Demonstrated capability to work with bucking equipment and pipe conveyors.
  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices used in the threading and yard department.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check in accordance with the company’s policy.
