Hours: Part/Full time. Tuesday to Saturday for shifts between 10 am and 11 pm.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of cooking and meal preparation tasks at one or more of the following locations: The Smokin’ Buddha, Food Trailer/Catering and/or The Humberstone Event Hall. The cook will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in an open kitchen environment, food preparation and portion control, line set up and take down, reading, prioritizing and preparing food orders and cleaning duties.

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Read food order slips, prepare and cook food according to instructions and recipes.
  • Taste food being served to verify and ensure consistent flavor
  • Control timing of food preparation, portion control and presentation of dishes
  • Monitor par levels and restock as required
  • Clean, peel, slice and trim foodstuffs using manual and electric appliances
  • Follow recipes, check food quality and quantity
  • Unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, cupboards and other storage areas
  • Work on several different orders simultaneously
  • Set up line for lunch/dinner. Turn equipment on. Prep first according to prep list
  • Close down line and clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces and utensils
  • Keep cooking space clean and tidy.
  • Receive deliveries and store items accurately
  • Work with restaurant kitchen staff to prepare, cook and plate all dishes on our menu for online, in house or catering orders
  • Ability to handle high volume food orders, and efficiently cook these dishes while maintaining food quality.
  • Assist in inspection of all food, supplies, equipment and work areas to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Follow health and safety legislations, policies and procedures.
  • Working in close proximity of the kitchen team, as well as management, servers, bartenders and dish washers.
  • Perform designated opening and closing procedures and offer assistance to other team members as requested.

Qualifications

  • Have a passion for food, especially global flavours
  • Superior customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knife handling skills
  • Current Food Safety certification (certification training can be provided)
  • Speak, read and write English and basic math skills
  • Attention to detail, good memory, ability to multi-task
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills within team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work with little supervision with a high standard for quality, attention to detail and cleanliness

 Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Required to stand for long periods of time during shift
  • Required to lift, carry or handle heavy objects
  • Required to adapt to temperature changes on occasion (cooler, freezer, outdoor)
