Volunteer Summary

Working during our Foodbank and Port Cares operating hours, the responsibilities as a Port Cares volunteer includes completing task assigned by the immediate supervisor onsite, upholding the organization’s values, and maintaining a high degree of professionalism with all stakeholders.

Possible Roles

  • Food Box Delivery Volunteer

Main Duties (may include)

  • Conduct daily donation pickups from local retailers and grocery stores.
  • Perform material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking of food.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, team, clients and volunteers.
  • Works as part of the Port Cares team.
  • Promote a positive image to clients.

Other Duties

  • Champion vision, mission and values of Port Cares
  • Participate in the maintenance of a safe, clean and sanitary working environment.
  • Observe all fire and safety rules and be on the alert for safety of clients, staff and the public
  • Ensure confidential information is secure at all times and client privacy and confidentiality is maintained according to Port Cares’ Privacy policy
  • Work as part of the Port Cares team to promote a positive image within the community.
  • As appropriate, participate in Port Cares functions/ fundraising activities.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Port Cares.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and competencies

  • Neat appearance, and well maintained personal hygiene.
  • Customer Service skills an asset.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Good verbal & communication skills.
  • Self-managed, demonstrated initiative and ability to productively multi-task.
  • High degree of patience with others.
  • G license is required
  • Flexible and adaptable, and able to conduct pick ups in the mornings from Monday – Friday
  • Police Check is required*

*An organizational letter will be provided during the onboarding that will effectively remove the cost for a Police Criminal Record Check, and lower the cost for a Police Vulnerable Sector Check to $20.00.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Pay: $1.00 per year

Expected hours: 1 – 10 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends
