Job Description
This is a permanent independent contractor position offering three 3-hour shifts weekly, preference is for weekday afternoons for optimal fitness
Position starts April 1st after choice of most appropriate applicant having sufficient experience with special needs including non verbal individuals. Positive references and presentation of a police check for the vulnerable sector is required.
Compensation is from the Passport Program at $30 per hour with 55 cents per kilometer incurred. Specific tasks include:
- Supporting an easy going adult MALE individual who has Downs Syndrome
- Supporting client with activities such as walking tracks or trails for warm-up, stretching, building core, operating exercise equipment and using gymnasiums for ball sports
- Carrying water bottles, juice and granola bar supply; offering whatever appropriate every hour if needed after exertion,
- Encouraging and supervising washroom facility use at appropriate intervals
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Passion for fitness training and experience; ability to motivate client to occasionally compete against trainer and time for fun and to exceed past repetitions/successes
- Ability to relate to a nonverbal client without the client always providing clues. Asking questions providing “either/or” type answers for him to choose from
- Minimal understanding of type 1 Diabetes as it relates to responding to blood sugar readings with the use of a Dexcom G7 monitor (will train);
- Insulin administration IS NOT NEEDED as parents responsible before and after shift
- References for professional experience and certifications, personal references from teachers or parent(s) of a former or current client are appreciated but not necessary.
- Valid Canadian Work Permit if necessitated by immigration within the last 3 years.
- Reliable transportation, ability to keep a schedule commitment
