Job Description


As a member of the Maintenance team, the Electrician will report to the Maintenance Manager. The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and testing industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls to ensure proper preventative maintenance and minimal downtime of equipment located in the Port Colborne facility.


·         Under general supervision repairs, installs, maintains, and tests industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls, such as motors, transformers, wiring, switches, and alarm systems, used for the generation, distribution and utilization of electric energy in a food manufacturing establishment, in accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations

·         Installs, calibrates, operates and ensures the proper maintenance of Programmable Logic Controls for food manufacturing equipment according to technical manuals and verbal and written instructions

·         Work within a team to provide support for the production line and troubleshoot, locates determines and diagnoses electrical malfunctions in the facility and repairs

·         Participate, collaborate and cooperate with millwrights and other trades to promptly repair

·         Develops and conducts preventative maintenance program and keeps maintenance records

·         Tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency

·         Inspects circuits and wiring for appropriate shielding and grounding

·         May rewind or make major repairs to motors

·         Prepare purchase orders or requisitions

·         Ensures all work complies with Safety Standards and all Applicable codes while maintaining all electrical wiring as to ensure operator safety and machine integrity

·         Provide leadership and training for junior technicians

·         Adheres to Pinty’s policies and procedures

·         Other duties as assigned



·         Electrical/Electrical (Electronic) trade certification and minimum of two /three years of industrial experience and PLC programming certificate / training

·         Electrical and or electronic training at college or university level and 2 – 3 years of practical manufacturing experience required, preferably in the food industry

·         Experience with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) essential

·         Understand preventative maintenance concepts and computerized work order systems

·         Good understanding of AC and DC motors

·         Independent and self-motivated troubleshooter and problem solver.

Technical & Skill Requirements:

·         Specific knowledge and experience with pneumatics

·         Class B refrigeration an asset

WORK ENVIRONMENT (including Physical Demands):

·         Exposure to noise, heights, confined spaces, poor lighting conditions, material, products and by-products associated with the food manufacturing, temperatures, and weather extremes that require the use of specialized protective devices, clothing or equipment

·         Required to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding to access elevations, able to crouch for periods of time, push, pull, lift, and turn while carrying tools, material and equipment in various parts of the facility. Excessive walking. Operate material handling equipment which could include cranes, lift trucks, pallet lifter chain hoists etc.

·         Willing to work overtime

·         8 hour shift of days with the potential of alternative shifts or as required
