Detailed Description

St. James & St. Brendan Anglican Church, located in Port Colborne, is a faith community that promotes the common good of the wider community. It provides tangible, compassionate assistance and care through programs and ongoing support. The position will provide administrative assistance and data collection support to a Community Garden project that will reach out to seniors and actively encourage them to participate in a community garden. The project will also support events and activities pertaining to the future construction of a community greenspace.

Job Description
Reporting to the Church Administrative Assistant/Church Warden and working out of the church office this position will be instrumental in supporting the Community Garden Coordinator and the Park Committee. The successful candidate will encourage seniors to participate in a Community gardening project on property on the corner of King & Charlotte Streets.

The individual will be a people-oriented individual, who has tact, patience and compassion when working with seniors. This role will offer a hands-on-approach to assisting with the promotion, data collection, report writing and general support to the Park Committee and the Community Garden project

Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop and distribute promotional material for project
• Develop and complete administrative and data reports to support the goal of this project
• Assist with data collection for the daily operation of the Community Garden
• Interact, encourage and assist participants where necessary
• Assist with administrative duties pertaining to the future development of the park project
• Develop and distribute promotional material and assist with special events throughout the summer
• Assist Park Committee in the ongoing work to further the development of the community greenspace
• Attend meeting of the Park Committee reporting on the progress of the community garden project
• Prepare final report for project
• Adhere to Health & Safety regulations

• Be between the ages of 15-30 years of age
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred
• Have been enrolled in full-time schooling Spring 2018 semester & enrolled for full time studies Fall 2018 semester
• Field of Studies: Social Services, Sociology, Psychology, Communications, Environmental or Health Studies, Volunteer Management, Public Relations

Working Conditions
• Duration up to 16 weeks at 30 hours/week at $14.00 hour (dependent on approved funding)
• Some work will be required out of doors
• Some weekend and evening work will be required for special events

Direct Reports
• Reports to Church Administrator/Church Warden
• Expected to attend meetings of Park Committee
• Some volunteer supervision will be required

Competencies & Skills Required
• Excellent organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Report writing and statistical data tracking skills required
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to multitask
• Experience working with volunteers & seniors an asset
• Have the ability to analyze information and make suggestions for best practices
• Working knowledge of poverty issues
• Adhere to the qualifications set y Canada Summer Jobs program
• Provision of vulnerable sector police check
